About Our Logo
In designing our logo, JEM Group was pleased to find a trademark that represents its business both literally and symbolically. The logo has generated many questions and comments. We welcome every opportunity to discuss the logo and our business.
Many inquiries stem from the tool featured in the logo (suspended above the M in JEM). Within the construction industry, the tool is quickly identified as the plumb bob, and its function is common knowledge. For others, the bob has created a buzz. In response we offer following explanation.
The plumb bob is an uncomplicated device made of coarse string or nylon cord with a specially designed weight attached. Applying the laws of gravity, the bob functions to determine the point at which something is plumb, or simply put, exactly vertical or perpendicular to any level plane through which it passes. The bob is fixed at a point to be plumbed and then swings freely until the weighted point of the instrument stops, thereby determining an exactly vertical line.
Imagine a construction foreman using a plumb bob to find an exact vertical in order to build a straight chimney or properly hang a door. You may have seen a golfer crouch and dangle a putter aloft his/her ball, in effect creating a makeshift bob to establish the optimal putting line to the hole.
A plumb bob is a toolbox essential - reliable, true and versatile. Metaphorically, all are qualities JEM Group will employ in providing quality service to its clientele.
Another topic of speculation is what "JEM" represents. Literally, it is an acronym for owner, Jessica E. Meyers. Pronounced "gem," a symbolic association is drawn. A "gem" is prized for its quality and/or value, both of which JEM Group intends to offer in providing construction services.
The staff at JEM Group remains content to field any questions about its logo, its services or related topics. JEM still wants the buzz.
